Global warming is the process of the Earths temperature rising. This rise in temperature has been in effect since the 19th century. Since the early 20th century Earths average temperature has increased 0.8 degrees Celsius with about two thirds being from the last 30 years. The rise in temperature is caused by the rapidly increasing greenhouse gas emmisions, such as carbon dioxide, which are a bi-product of combustion. The carbon dioxide forms a layer up in our atmosphere causing heat radiation from the sun to come in but not to come out. So the heat stays in our rapidly heating planet. Even though the atmosphere is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and only 0.3%carbon dioxide that is still well enough to increase earths temperature. The main causes of global warming is combustion. Combustion is the burning of generally fossil fuels for energy. Fossil fuels are a non-renewable energy source made millions of years ago (such as coal). The bi-products of combustion such as carbon dioxide and water vapor are the green house gases destroying and heating our planet.
